The project seeks to leverage on music to provide sensitization about some of the pressing needs of the Karamajong society, specifically sexual and reproductive health, substance abuse and the high rates of school dropouts.

ANYANGO CATHERINE

Anyango, a renown local songstress from Karamoja seeks to record more music with key messages for the community addressing issues like stigma against persons living with HIV/AIDS and orphans, respect of human rights and spiritual nourishment.

LONGES GABRIEL (AIR J)

MUSIC

Air J as he is popularly known is a renown artist that has defied all odds despite him being blind; he has proved that he is uniquely talented and gifted. He intends to set up the first ever modern music domestic  recording studio that has the ability to support differently abled artists such as himself. This is aimed at promoting local artists in Karamoja and also encouraging more artists with the music talent to explore the same.

ALEPER LUKE (ETUKO GROUP)

A music dance and drama group comprised of 15 members that aims to use their artistic skills to advocate for

Peace and unity in Karamoja while resounding various vices and calling for social change.

KARAMOJA AUDIO VISUAL WARRIORS

Karamoja audio-visual warriors is a collection of seven talented artists based in Kotido, who would love to tell the Karamojong stories through film and photography. Film and photography remain fairly unexplored in the deep Karamojong communities.

LITTLE STARS

Little stars is a group of primary pupils in various schools of Kotido municipality, Kotido district initiated by the Seventh-day Adventist church Kotido central in January 2019 to create awareness, build confidence, and advocate for the rights of the voiceless and also fight against social evils in Karamoja.

A painter who seeks to resound road safety and advocate for safety measures for motorists and cyclists using

her art skills as a tool.

AYOO JOSEPHINE

FASHION

This project is geared towards the designing and product making of leather shoes and jewellery using beads. This personal development will encourage resilience being a single mother while promoting self-reliance of other girls and women.

AZIZ BIN MOHAMED

FILM

This project is to produce a documentary on child abuse in Karamoja. This intends to indulge in community sensitization on the implications of child abuse. The idea focuses on child abuse in Karamoja. Most children in Uganda have faced some form of violence – physical, sexual, emotional or domestic.

TUNAPONGOLE

PHOTOGRAPHY

TUNAPONGOLE is a duo by Isaac Ejopu and Lemuko Julius Shongs whose idea is to use photography to connect Karamoja communities, share cultural and traditional lifestyle photography;  inside and outside Uganda by using social media and photo books to share and tell Karamoja stories.

The motivation for starting/doing this project is primarily from an interest to provide quality music, something which has, for the most part of the years back, affected the development of the music industry and talent in Karamoja, hence Uganda. We want to develop a brand of music typical to our Karamajong culture and this can only be done by the locals around who understand the concept of music and culture in the region by first and foremost using a studio and secondly skill from within the boundaries in which it is found.

As a creative fashion designer with garment construction expertise, Awilli Intends to creatively use local and indigenous Karamojong aspects of design to make bridal wear and women’s clothes generally.

KILAMA BRIAN

FILM

Kilama intends to film his music compositions to capture the rich typography of Abim district and featuring the unique cultural aspects and lifestyle of the Karamajong people.

FARDOSA AHAMED

LITERATURE

The project is aimed at writing and publishing books for children, for entertainment and education purposes. This is aimed at encouraging and promoting the local reading culture in the Karamoja community which is currently very low partly due to the low literacy levels.

ONYANGO GERALD

LITERATURE

Onyango Gerald intends to write and publish a book on Karamoja’s cultural heritage to document the Karimojong internal organization system based on their history and the contemporary times.

ALEKO ANGELO

GRAPHICS AND ANIMATION

In this advanced era of technology, Aleko aims to use his skills of graphics and animation to create support foundations for film and photography inspired by the Karamojong stories.

She intends to find a permanent art studio space where she will be inspired to create and live to practice her painting skill and make jewellery inspired by cultural traditional forms of bead making and assembling.

LODUK JOHN BOSCO

A documentary film initiative that advocates for the fair and equal treatment of all humans through the elevating of human rights at the fore front of their scripts within the richly endowed Karamajong landscape and culture.

ALBERT ALEPER

LITERATURE

He intends to write short stories in ngakarimojong on sub-topics like behavioural change, discipline, peace and unity to encourage the reading and comprehension of ngakarimojong.

Having contributed to the writing of national books under the Uganda National Curriculum centre for P1 to P3; he aims to leverage from that experience to make his art project a success.
