Bernard Tabaire

Advisory Committee Member

Bernard Tabaire is a media trainer and director of programmes at the Kampala-based African Centre for Media Excellence, a not-for-profit professional organisation he co-founded in 2009 to advance journalistic and communication excellence in Uganda, and the region. Bernard is also a columnist with the Sunday Monitor, and an occasional radio commentator on public and current affairs.

He is a former co-managing editor of the Daily Monitor, Uganda’s leading independent daily. As a journalist and citizen, Bernard has engaged with the arts sector in Uganda at different levels, and has dabbled in short story writing with … success. He thus brings keen knowledge on working with artists in Uganda.

Bernard attended school in Uganda and in the United States, and was a 2006/’07 visiting journalist fellow at Oxford University. He has taught journalism at Makerere University and consulted for various local and international organisations on journalism and communication. He loves climbing mountains, having scaled Elgon, Muhabura and the Rwenzoris in 2015. Mt Kilimanjaro is up next, once one of his ageing knees permits.
